in the restless hum of johannesburg, giuliette price was born into a house already alive with song. following in the footsteps of her mother, janine price, a worship leader, she spent her childhood in the shadows of band rehearsals and choirs, where music revealed itself as both prayer and power. before she could even write her own name, she was staging performances with her sister in their living room, already directing, styling, and singing with the conviction of someone who knew the world was her stage. by the age of seven, she had stepped into church services and school plays, tasting the first sparks of performance.

but the journey was never linear. high school carried its weight, where insecurity and bullying shadowed her, it was in the quiet of her bedroom that giuliette found her sanctuary—songwriting. here, with pen to paper, she began weaving her inner world into melodies. “i had been singing throughout my whole life,” she recalls, “but only after school was i brave enough to take it on, and take the leap into the possibilities that my life could have” (verve magazine).

in 2019, that leap led her to wits university. she arrived not yet knowing how to read music, but determination reshaped her path. “i went from not knowing how to read, all the way to grade five music theory,” she reflects, a reminder of her tenacity. soon, a mentor’s words turned her gaze toward cape town—“i belonged in cape town,” she was told—and in 2021, she moved to the south african college of music at UCT, where she earned her degree in jazz voice performance with distinction.

since then, her story has unfurled like brushstrokes on canvas, each achievement adding colour and light. her debut EP rather lie (2024) captured her raw, live sound; she filled festival stages to capacity, performed at the baxter theatre, became a featured artist on big little concepts, and in june, was selected for the national youth jazz band. 2025 marked another milestone when she was awarded first prize in the UNISA jazz vocal competition, cementing her as one of the country’s most luminous young voices.

today, giuliette stands as one of the country’s most luminous young voices, weaving jazz, soul, and poetry into songs that feel timeless — performances where every note is both story and spell.
